Letter sent to INTACH:
To,
Director,
INTACH,
New Delhi.Sir,
I am working on Indian Art History. My work entails travelling a lot. I would like to bring to your notice the plight of two important sites that are threatened if proper care is not taken.
The first site is Kalibangan - a pre-Harappan as well as Harappan settlement excavated 25 years ago in Ganganagar district of North West Rajasthan. Since 5 years the monsoons have been very active in these parts. The excavated structures KLB-1, KLB-2, KLB-3 are of sun-baked brick. They have been flowing away with the rainwater. A lot of damage has already been done. A shade is badly needed alongwith other measures to salvage what is left. If immediate steps are not taken 'Kalibangan' a unique settlement will disappear from the archaeological map of the world.
The Second monuments I would like to mention is 'Kuraiyya Bir' a temple of 7th C AD in the vicinity of Deogarh in District of Uttar Pradesh, threatened with submurgence. A dam is going to be built on the river Betwa which is going to affect a number of other monuments like the famous Gupta Temple of Deogarh.
I sincerely hope efforts will be made by INTACH towards conservation of these monuments.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
